I can't call for you, (can I?)

by Poet on the Piano   Nov 25, 2014

Play your heart for me. What
chords these words often
depress, but is it wrong to need
your love this way? Unrehearsed
are our encounters, your nerves
summoning memories I never
knew existed in this cursed world.

Not in love with you, in love with
the notion you would hold me to
shelter me from my own
silence. I'm needy, young, not
beautiful yet.

Let the keys tell me it's okay to
be this young, this foolish
(for now).

-
Listening to a piano cover of Lana Del Rey's "Young & Beautiful" by The Theorist. The title and instrumental version inspired me to write this poem, to a person I am not in love with but want to love and protect me in ways I cannot do for myself.

Yet another stunning write from you, I especially love this one because I know the song that inspired it. I love the way there is hope and honesty in this piece. how it reaches out to the reader in its own way and lets so many people know they are not alone in feeling this way, yet there is so much ahead of them. I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into this, but either way its wonderful.

I especially enjoyed your concluding stanza. perfectly penned.

I can honestly say that this is magnificent, the way it reads, word choice, timing and everything is spot on. When it comes to love, this is the base of all of us....it doesn't matter who you are, how strong or successful, beautiful or confident we all want this from someone.

    Epic.
