Four Shadows Past

by Maple Tree   Nov 30, 2014

I continued writing long after
your eyelashes fluttered into
a fading dream of you and I.

Pen slipped into a mist
of emotions that bowed before
mother moon's shadow.

Early dawn,
four shadows past-

The ending was tearful,
agonizing memories
devoured sleeplessness.

Hushing silence
flickered a
candle dance of light.

Cold,
brittle and broken.

Your soul had journeyed
far beyond
scribbled words.

A moment blushing
at the crack of sunlight,
time to finally join
you in slumber,
granting
an afterlifes
kiss.

Free to love,
forever and always.

The past was now a poem.

Your poetry always leaves me speechless, Andrea. I am an avid reader of yours but rarely comment due to the fact that I am always completely blown away.

The scene you have portrayed here is you sitting up late at night in bed, writing poetry long after your husband has went to bed. It's almost like this is your private time to finally sit down and let all of the pent up emotions out, something you may not be able to do while he is awake because you don't want him to see how these agonizing memories still affect you. Or it could just be the only time you can gather your thoughts with a little bit of peace and quiet. But you stay up for a few hours, just pouring your heart out and when dawn is peeking through the curtains, it is time for you to finally lay down and go to sleep beside your husband.

I'm in love with your ending - perfect!

    scribbled words.

I felt a deep sadness reading this, but it was so beautifully written from beginning to end.
