Tricks of Dawn

by ShadowsEmber   Dec 17, 2014

I lie in bed after tossing and turning,
yet another sleepless night I'm afraid.

A light shines in my eye with a bit of a glimmer.
Believing it to be dawn, I rise.

My house is awfully quiet,
not like it isn't normally.

I grab my book from my bedside,
preparing to go to my early morning read.

Sitting down, I see that it is still dark outside.
Confused, I walk back into my bedroom.

I look out the window and realize that dawn is not what caught my eye.

A street light is on, with the glimmer from the rain.

I lie back down and sigh,
because I know sleep will not befall on me.

I think that almost anyone can relate to this at some point or another and you penned the moment perfectly.
