The Unwrapped Present

by cassie hughes   Dec 18, 2014

There it sits beneath the tree,
golden and tempting, with
satin red ribbons,
calling out to be
untied.
I reach,
but dare not touch it's
shining form.
So there it waits..
The hands by which its
contents were designed
to be revealed,
are lost from sight.
The heart to which
I hoped this gift would call
will never beat it's
love to mine again.
I let it lie.
This present which was
meant to bring the future,
now will only call to mind
the past.
So stays
unwrapped.

Written for a club Christmas title toss.
