Remembering Summer Love

by Baby Rainbow   Dec 20, 2014

Remember the summer night
we spent by the beach,
sleeping beneath the midnight sky
with stars shining down on our love?

Remember the gentle breeze
kissing our cheeks,
taking our secret whispers
and safe-guarding them in the sea?

Remember the golden ring
sliding upon my finger,
promising us a future together
of vows until death do us part?

Remember the crashing waves
washing away our worries,
cleansing our souls of the past
and granting us a fresh tomorrow?

Remember the last breath
you took in front of me,
the one that echoes in my screams
and wakes me from my sleep?

Remember the unmade plans
we thought time would allow us,
the dreams of our future
that have now become my nightmares?

Remember that summer night
we promised to stay together...

...not knowing that our love
would never have the chance
to live forever.

Wow, Saffie - you're practically making a grown man cry with this one. What a heart wrenching effort. "Taking our secrets and safe-guarding them in the sea" What a beautiful line! A lot of pain in this poem, but conveyed brilliantly.

This is a beautifully written poem, Saffie! I hope it is an actual memory that you can hold in your heart forever!

Because you write about him a lot, always starting off in the most uplifting and loving terms, I would like to see you write these poems without the very sad endings! I know it still hurts, and the sad part is how you feel when you are dreaming or alone, but writing about your memories of him in positive terms only might allow you to re-read them when you feel bad about his loss, and help you deal with the more negative outcomes you experience?

A stunning poem though! Really enjoyed it!

I know I shouldnt say this, but I relate to this piece all too well, whether it's your story or someone else's. It is very well written and I love how each of the beginning stanzas is another way of describing the night that meant so much to you (or your character) depending on how you wrote this. I love the style choice and how you did end up describing everything at the beginning so completely thoroughly. Very, very well written.
