Strings

by Mandy   Jan 15, 2015

Empty little vessel
Sad twisted little thing
Sitting abandoned in the corner
Collecting dust with rotting strings

Just a glint to make her sparkle
Just seen in the right way
Someone always comes along
And always wants to play

Euphoric and uplifted
Safe in someone's arms
The sensation of anything
Unresisting to his charms

Oh so gently he caresses her
Oh so beautiful she feels
Fascinated by the novelty
She can finally feel real

This time will be so different
This time she'll see the sun
Staring at her in the dim light
He tells her she's the one

And slowly he extracts her
From her lonely little place
He convinces her she's everything
She's lost in his embrace

She warms herself up slowly
She's handing him her strings
She promises him readily
That she'll do anything
Holding her entranced
Her confidence has grown
Slowly she tries a smile
Something she's rarely shown

Her face is lit up brightly
She let's her feelings show
She trusts in him completely
She feels herself let go

Finally the freedom
She fills her lungs to sing
But she feels the pressure building
As he tightens on her strings

She hears him whisper softly
As he clutches her so tight
I can see your cracks, my dear
Here basking in the light

I can make you dance for me
I can make you cry
His grip is getting painful
A tear comes to her eye

Dance my little puppet
I control these strings
I am in control of you
My precious little thing

Who would want an ugly thing?
A broken little toy
You're just a thing to play with
Something to give me joy

At least you're not alone
He says, at least you're of some use
I can see your flaws and scars
You're used to the abuse

Confused and feeling frightened
She's trying to get free
He grips her ever tighter
There's nowhere to flee

He grins and lets her know
She's his until he's through
No amount of screaming
Will stop what he can do

And when she's cracked and bleeding
When she's shaking on the floor
He tosses her back where she came from
Broken, scarred, alone once more.

I don't know how I missed this little masterpiece. You had me gripped all the way through. The rhyming and flow were excellent as was the tale. Beautifully written and absolutely has to go on my favourites list. Milly x

You had me hooked at "collecting dust with rotting strings" - it made me shiver. This was beautifully written, hauntingly written. Thank you for finding words for such heartache and despair. I hope finding the words helped you heal just a little bit.
