The Breaking News

by Baby Rainbow   Jan 15, 2015

162 people presumed dead, after their plane
crashed into the stormy sea which swallowed their futures.

12 innocent victims slaughtered by terrorists
in a city once connected with romance.

19 citizens blown up in Nigeria by a ten year old girl,
who was strapped with a suicide bomb belt.

Another 7 citizens blown up in a suicide bomb attack
in Lebanon.

57 passengers tragically killed as their bus
crashed into an oil tanker,
remains charred beyond recognition.

5 innocent children strangled to death
by the hands of their father, who believed his actions
would gain him the magical power of everlasting youth.

Each story brushes against my ears as sympathy grows,
but it is the words of my niece that truly cut my heart.

"Please turn the TV off!"

It is such a breaking thought
when a nine year old child
cries for you to turn the TV off
because it saddens her so much to hear the news.

And it saddens me more that this news is the reality
of the world in which her little heart used to adore.

Saffie, wow this poem is powerful, so much power that one person can affect so many lives. One crash and one accident or bombing can affect so many lives. This is sadly the world we live in nowadays, and this world used to be so peaceful and bright, but killing is all that is heard about. I love the beginning of this poem for its introduction, but you did not use it as the main message of the poem. That comes later with your niece who asks you turn off the tv because in your and her heart know that this world is falling apart and she knows how dangerous the world is nowadays. I love this poem as a whole because of the title for one, it fits so damn well with the poem, and two, you did not put yourself as the main character but instead almost have like two different poems going on, but they are connected as one. 5/5
