I know you have scars
I have them too
But just because they're there
Doesn't mean they define you
Whether they are there
From you or not
You can move past
The sorrow they brought
It will take time
But if they never fade
Just think of the lesson
What a better you, they made
It's not going to be easy
But let them remain
Use them as reminders
Think of you then, you'll stay sane
We have been labeled cutters
But we are not our sins
People are jealous, we've been through more
And yet we can begin again
We have been given second, third, fourth chances
Let this one count
Become the person you want
There is no limit, no amount
Change whatever you want
But do it to better yourself
Now put that knife where it belongs
Alone, no blood, on the shelf
Put it out of your reach
Make it not worth the climb
Know you're not alone
And give yourself time
Recovery is a process
It won't happen overnight
But know you are strong
And you can win this fight
You may think I'm stronger than you
But it took me years to get here
And even though the pull isn't as strong
Relapse is always a fear
And if I do relapse I need to remember
That doesn't mean I'm addicted
I just made a mistake
I don't need to be readmitted
And if you can't look at the big picture
Just look at your first stride
And if you ever feel alone
Look to your heart, I'll be right by your side
And if you need a shoulder to lean on
I'm right here
And if you feel you can talk to no one
I can be your silent ear
If you need someone to take the knife
Just imagine my hand
Know I say this with complete honesty
I understand
If you can't think of a single good thing about you
Just check your heartbeat
And if you're still not convinced
I have no problem learning to repeat
You are stronger than this
And I know you may not believe this about you
So until you can, know
That I do.
