Sun Kissed Angel Wings

Sun Kissed Angel Wings

The days were long
the nights even longer
it was dark, dreary and rainy
as you laid in that hospital bed
breathing heavily even with
the aide of an oxygen tube
medications every four hours
no longer helping and
after a few days you
refused to eat or drink

Late one afternoon
you were very agitated
and I leaned over to comfort you
when suddenly your eyes opened
you looked right at me and said
"I love you my Angela"
and I whispered
"I love you too Mommy"
those were the last words
you spoke to me
and I will forever
keep them in my heart

In the late hours of each night
you'd call out for your mom and dad
you were begging God to help

Well, he heard your calls
and he answered you
by sending his angels
to bring you home

It was in the early morning hours
on a day that we always
considered "Family Day"
Sunday

And it was the first time
since you'd been sick
that the sun kissed the sky

So, in the years to come
after it rains and the sun shines
I'll be reminded of the day when
a beautiful Angel got her wings

That's beautiful, in my mother's last years she moved in with us, she struggled with emphysema and depression. I still feel a part of me is missing and that was 13 years ago.

Although this poem is filled with grief, it has such beauty of remembrance as its main structure, which makes it more touching, rather than "sad" to read. The author has reminded us that when we lose someone so very close to us, we have to keep their memories alive, in order to remember them, and feel them. I think the author done such a realistic job with this subject, and to take such a small memory, and make it so big, again goes to show what we really miss when we lose someone. We never remember the material things, or money, it is the times we spent with them, and this poem emphasises this point greatly, and so movingly!

This is a very personal and heart felt poem & one that I know must have been very hard to share. The pain never goes away but life does get easier. Don't let anybody rush your grief. Beautiful piece x

This is very difficult for me to comment on... You love her so much, very close with her. I know this... Losing your Mother has brought you so much pain, and it breaks my heart.. She is with you... You know this.. She is a spirited beauty, as she was in life.. Her eyes had a sparkle and you have her eyes Ang- Keep that sparkle alive... I love you <3
