Twenty-one Dog Salute

by Michael D Nalley   Feb 15, 2015

The Lord is my Shepherd,
or this could be a cataclysm
In green pastures, like birds,
I chased before I learned catechism.

He leads me beside
Police dogs to test my faith.
He restores my hide,
of my lives this is my eighth.

Even though I walk through the valley
slowly in the shadow of death,
I fear no evil,in this alley
where I just may take my last breath.

Even though I walk through
The valley of the shadow of death
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me

You prepare a table before me
In the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil I see.
My cup overflows with double indemnities.

You guide me for my protection
In paths of feline righteousness.
For Your namesake is perfection,
as I pray for German shepherd idleness.

Even though I walk through
The valley of the shadow of death
I fear no evil, for You are with me

Even though I walk through
The valley of the shadow of death
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me

All the days of my nine lives
I will dwell in your house.
All the days of my nine lives
As quit as a church mouse.

An honorable poem for an honorable animal. I enjoyed of the humorous stanzas in juxtaposition to poignant words. Your works are always original and fun to read. thanks

Your version fits the site much better. In the case of my own missing tabby cat (two weeks now with occasional sightings by close neighbors), I hope the substance of your work proves true.
