Sight

Virtues are only for hypocrites.
This I know, even though
I've lived far too many lives
to believe in truth.

I've cried for help
far too many times
to believe that trust
is a blessing.

I've woken up stuck
inside a broken body
far too many times
to believe in freedom.

Far too many times have I
been to the funerals of friends
for me to lovingly speak of hope
that ushers fate into providence,

and I've heard the people sigh
in a relief coated in black and water
as they preach a mourning
completely void of conviction.

Now do I dream of neither silk nor gold,
for I have seen the ugliness of men
when they are driven by desires
far too many times to believe in beauty.
