Traveling in stone.

by Poet on the Piano   Mar 12, 2015

Sometimes, all we know
how to do as writers is
brush our emotional pain
and experiences onto a
new canvas, polishing rocks
mourned by the river
in order to understand
where we go from
here.

That title got me at 1st blink.

This short poem is very rich.
The images and word choice is utterly creative, this poem felt like a shelter for me in a certain sense or another !

    Loved every single line.

    Loved the "writers" "We" "all"
this customization with the general audience just works very well here.

    Well done for writing this.

Polished river rocks in comparison to us as writers is spot on! I had to highlight this piece for its very upfront and powerful connection!

Although short poems can sometimes lack something important, I feel this poem shows us how it can be done, and done well! Mary has captured the inner mindset of a writer here, and who better to understand the words, than her fellow poets! Short, but thought-provoking and powerful at the same time.

A simple piece written in a such a way that it allows those who are not interested in poetry or writing to understand why those things are such huge parts of others' lives. It also allows writers of all kinds to boil down their craft to such bare bones that those who have lost sight of why they do what they do can gain perspective again. A beautifully simple write from Maryanne this week.

How true! You have captured the essence of what poetry is to a writer and what a writer is to poetry...Congratulations on the win!
