Cost Of Choices

by Baby Rainbow   Mar 15, 2015

My truth was pushed aside
while you flooded your own eyes
with his lies, all so you could
hold onto his so-called love!

I will never ask you to take my side over his
because I have nothing to gain from you,
and nothing to lose by losing you.

The bottom line is I had no choice
but to have him in my life (because of you),
whereas you had a choice and you made your decision-
that being with him was better than being alone;
despite the cost.

Powerful, cutting stuff Saffie! Understandably full of vitriolic resentment! I love your imagery and description in this poem, 'flooded your own eyes with his lies' - her need for love giving her a blinkered approach to this man and what his real agenda was! She actually comes across as a very weak individual! You however, come across with strength and courage! Well written!

If you did not do it intentionally, the 'Of' in the title should not be capitalized.

I have to say that I can relate really well to this poem, at least I think that I can. It seems to be about a relative/close friend of yours who is in a relationship that might not be considered healthy for her/him. You do not approve of the relationship, so this is your thoughts about it on paper.

^ That pretty sums up the whole meaning of this poem right here. It is awfully amazing how love sometimes makes people blind...every time I see it, I am incredibly amazed by it. I don't necessarily know if that is a good thing, or not. I have never been in love myself, so I guess that I am just biased here. I don't know if I should be admitting this, but I sometimes just want to shake people until they wake up when they are acting this stupid...it is a pet peeve of mine.

^ This is the cost that this person is making here. The cost is losing you, as a friend/person that they can depend on. I am sure that once they realize that they probably made the wrong choice, they will miss you. The question is, are you one of those people who will not help them in the end? Will you just leave them there because you think that it is their fault they are in this position, and that they should learn from their mistakes? I am tortured by this dilemma everyday, and I wish that someone would give me an answer as to what I should do. How would you treat them if they were your loved one? It makes the situation even worse.

The bottom line is I had no choice
but to have him in my life (because of you),

^ How I wish that I could say this to that person who I am having the same dilemma with. But I can't...I won't leave them, because I love them enough to die for them if need be. The only good thing about it is that I don't have to see that person every single time...but I have to see him when he is with her. The bad thing about this is that he is also costing her what she should be entitled to: a happy life where she doesn't have to work three jobs, a place that she can call her own...etc. It just makes me mad that no one else sees that this is happening in the first place, but it is what it is.

Anyway, I just thought that it would be quite nice to see how I relate to this poem. I am sorry for taking up a good portion of your page, but I felt compelled to comment on this new poem of yours. It is quite relatable :)
