Shaped By Fear

by Baby Rainbow   Mar 20, 2015

His lies shaped the world around me
and underlined everything with danger.

Nothing I know was ever safe enough to trust,
no one was ever safe enough to love.

The known became terrifying,
but the unknown became impossible.

I became lost inside the uncounted years of my past,
and the longer I stayed there,
the easier it was to shut the whole world out.

Secrecy and shame overshadowed my soul,
draining me of every ounce of fight I had left.

Somewhere over the rainbow,
my world doesn't seem that different -
it still belongs to you,
shaped by all your lies.

Excellent description of your feelings of hatred and emotional trauma, written with passion in a heartfelt way, describing the effect this person had on your life! I am well aware of the effect one person can have on another's life and the resulting effects in terms of thoughts, feelings and emotions! I hope the last verse comes from the past, and not now!

Such a sad piece which will, I'm sure resonate with many. The feeling of hopelessness that runs through it is heartbreaking as is the thought that even after you have let go, escaped, the past will follow, holding you back and never allow you to trust or love again.
The past shapes our future but not always for the better.
    I like this, a lot.

In my opinio, many can relate to this.
It is exactly like you are in a thin shell, afraid to trust someone again, or to step out of the comfort zone. Afraid to be you and once again someone crushes your shell, and makes it even more difficult to go on without covering the scars. Just because of someone who doesn't care..
The title "Shaped by fear" in itself speaks volumes. How terrifying is fear, for us to fear it.
