Rain Of Fire

by Damien   Mar 24, 2015

Standing in this rain of fire
He can't take much more
The rain is burning his attire
Seeping into his body altering his core

He can feel darkness being born
The fire rain is loved by this spawn
From inside to out he is being torn
His humanity is imminently gone

The clawing and eating taking its toll
This darkness is almost free
He is about to lose his soul
But wait there's something he can see

Through the fire rain approaches light
The spawn is poking its head
Life in him is losing the fight
So far gone he's almost dead

Just as he takes his last breath
The light engages the dark foe
For now saving him from death
Light and darkness at it blow for blow

He can feel himself returning
Back into the body he once had
The sensation of being free is burning
Could this be good or bad

The battle has now stopped
Could the light have killed the spawn
Suddenly his soul is dropped
He is gone

I like this. I'm impressed by this, actually. The rhyming doesn't feel forced anywhere, but at the same time the syllables are almost unorganized so it doesn't have a tapping rhythm, but it's easy to read, even without a syllabic beat to it. This is an interesting structure.
