Fare Thee Well

by Mahal Ko Kuya Ko   Apr 14, 2015

I've heard loud silence of Manila lately,
and it is so sincere that whispers
are hardly recognized,
as if bohemian farewells
learned to live in lonely houses.

Rivers --
becoming dry at noon,
where seagulls withdraw themselves
from oblivion and shallowness

hide unspoken goodbyes
and lullabies.

Small, elegant poem that left me feeling speechless actually. So many visuals in a small and well formatted poem. It's elegant, and graceful and I felt sorrow and yet peaceful at the same time. Just lovely!

A smart tiny gem, there is a sense of mystery and melancholia very obvious in this writing and the writer used great imagery especially in the second stanza. Pretty interesting closure as well.

Woosh! this poem is amazing dashiel and I can see why it won the weekly contest, There are so many emotions here that hit the heart. I love how you used Manila here as well. I feel like it might be your hometown and something happened within. maybe a hurricane? You make it seem like the place is depressed, and the silenxe is echoing throughout the island. I love the seagull line. OMG that is beautiful. seagulls are withdrawing and trying to find a happier place than the river bed, because they are drying up, there is no food for them there. I love the title as well. You are saying goodbye without really saying goodbye. Therfe is so much sorrow that is in this poem. I loved how you stayed consistant through out the whole poem and didn't stray from the meaning or what you wanted to say. Great message in such a great piece. 5/5
