How to Stay Grounded (Catena)

by Larry Chamberlin   Apr 28, 2015

This trip was cursed from the start
with early wake-up, sleepy drive.

Airport crowded for such an hour
like kicking at an angry hive.

Boarded on time looking good
but back to gate - defective part.

Deplaned disgruntled all of us
with bad feeling and heavy heart.

Next flight out is overbooked
sorry, ma'am, if I look sour.

Checked on-line, worse to worst
dark clouds gather round the tower.

Prowling back to my first flight
things are nowise as they should.

Sitting on the Tarmac now
it can't get worse - it could.

Storm moving in delays us yet
passengers begin to cuss.

Next thousand mile trip I take
will be quicker on a bus.

Catena: series of 2-line stanzas with each couplet building on the one before to tell a story or convey meaning of some sort.
Rhyme schemes: a-b, c-b, d-a, e-a, f-c, g-c, h-d, i-d, etc.

This was a delight to read Larry...

I remember a nightmare flight I took years ago.

I had an overnight delay in Houston.. I slept in the hallway at the air port... Oh that was a true pain...I finally made it to Kansas City a day late...

Im really loving this form.... its style, format and the way it reads is really fun~

Boarding is one thing, actually taking off is another.
