My Angel, My Soul

by Someone Invisible   May 12, 2015

I asked her not to say it
I asked her not to care,
I warned her she would get hurt;
she must have took it as a dare.

She fancied herself a bird
soaring on the carefree wind,
she flew high above I ever could
she was everybodys friend.

With feet skimming the water
and finger brushing tree tops
she had no a care in the world
that is, until her world stopped.

She fell with shattered wings
feathers glittering as they flew away
the light in her eyes, it glowed no more
and darkness came to play.

Now here I suppose I could say
Honey, didn't I tell you so?
but I've been where she so suddenly is
so I just held her tight and promised never to let go...

I feel like you captured the romantic feeling I often hear (and apply myself) when I stumble upon dark times. In seeing the darkness, the pre-darkness before, always seems so full of light, full of flying. Then suddenly her wings were not working anymore. At first I felt like this as a poem about pushing away her love, but it ended up being a poem about her story, and in how you. . . almost awe of her was brought into a deep support and love for her in her suffering. There was a progression from, 'I think you are too good to love me', to "I am here - I love you." :)
