Yesterday's Vision

by Matt Coates   May 25, 2015

I lie awake, as I hear time passing by,
tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock.
Where am I going? Has time stood still?
It feels like I've worked so hard, yet traveled so little.

I sigh here; laying in the fetal position.
Obliterating every positive thought that hits mind.
Eliminating the true worth of myself,
to level with my poisonous surroundings.

Have you ever wondered about tomorrow?
What is tomorrow?
It seems like tomorrow, is this present moment,
of yesterday's vision of what was supposed to a better day.

Dead hope, false visions; it's all in this moment.
Tomorrow is now, and yesterday is today.
We prolong the inevitable,
by prolonging the inevitable.

It's all about work, and how hungry you are for it.
Is there really anything that you're truly better than?
Who are we to decide what is better?
At the end of the day, it's all about perception.

One man's gold, is another man's treasure,
But that confuses me, how can we measure, better?

Rationally thinking, self-focus is all that matters.
How can you focus on others, if you don't know who you truly are?
It's merely misleading; pretending that you understand.
Acting like you've been there; providing that helping hand.
How can you tell someone, to be someone else, if you're not even a someone, to someone else, yourself?

It's crazy, mind-boggling to say the least.
I've lost the need to prove myself, because I know I do this for myself.
At the end of the day, what's more important, than waking up happy for today?
I think our focus has been misdirected, it's all about proving a point.
But what better point is there to prove, than allowing others to know that you are truly happy, with the real...you?
