Comments : Bald Is Beautiful

My daughter's vet accepted Chloe, a rescue (& got in trouble with the head vet for it). The poor thing was manged so bad she had no hair and you literally could not tell what she was. Jessica and the other Vet Assistants loved her, scrubbed her daily and medicated her. She was the sweetest dog they had in the clinic. The clinic's Foster Angel began taking her home on weekends. Chloe's hair grew in; turned out she was a collie-rottweiler mix & gorgeous. The Foster Angel wound up adopting her.

I could not read your poem without remembering Chloe & thinking how Jessica & her fellows saw her beauty long before it became apparent.

Perhaps the best mark of a good poem is how closely it relates to one's own life. Well done.

This is so beautiful and you have such a good heart, Saffie. Indeed, every person and animal deserves love and to be treated with kindness, no matter their appearance. Beauty can be found everywhere, especially in man's best and sweetest companion.

    Glad you shared this!

People can be very cruel and ignorant. Often they get blinded by the outer looks when actually beauty comes from within. Instead of trying to get the person or the pet to know we judge. My girls once had a dog and he was completely deformed but he was the most loyal and best friend they ever had. This really touched my heart and it took me back in time. Great job and will add to my favorite.

I had no idea What this poem was about until I read the comments. The entired time I kept thinking, "what is Saffie talking about?"

"I don't consider bald unsightly... "And the part about "owning you" didn't make much sense. My thoughts were, "but We don't own any humans... "

    On another thought,
I have seen dogs and cats without hair, it looks different. I have also seen and had love birds without hair, (feathers), it looks different but it doesn't change who they are. Their personalities. we fall in love with personalities and character rather than appearance. Or at least ... many of us do.

    Good piece.
