Diary of a Rescue Dog - Final Plea - (Part Twenty Five)

by Baby Rainbow   Jun 3, 2015

I know I will soon be eleven,
and my bones are growing weak,
but I will love you so much more
than any puppy you'll ever meet.
I could teach you so many lessons
that a young dog never could-
lessons that you need to learn
for your knowledge of dogs to grow.

I promise to be loyal,
I promise to be your friend.
I'm toilet trained, I do not bark,
and I will sleep in any bed.

I sometimes hear them talking
about the space I'm using up,
and how if I fail one more time
they will give it to a pup.
Apparently I will be moved on
to a wonderful place called Heaven.
It's where dogs go that owner's don't keep,
where they can play all day and eat and sleep.

I really like the sound of Heaven,
but I don't think I'm ready yet.
For you see, there's one thing I have never learned
in all my time on Earth -
I've always wanted to learn my name,
one that doesn't change.

So to you, dear reader,
I beg for you to love me,
I beg for you to help me find my final chance at life.
Please teach me what it means to be unconditionally loved,
and to never again have to feel this concrete floor beneath my paws.
I will let you use my silver fur
to forever wipe your weeping eyes,
and I will stay faithful to you for as long as I shall live.

So please, dear reader,
if you are reading this,
can you give me my first real name,
my first real home,
and a family to forever call my very own...

before it is too late
and I end up crossing through Heaven's Golden Gates?

I have loved the journey you have taken us on with this diary. You have captured the dogs emotions so beautifully and if this doesn't make people sit up and take notice of the plight of those poor animals who are bred and traded for cash without a thought to their welfare I don't know what will.
I would love to think that this final piece is not the end but that he finds his ideal home in the end and lives the rest of his days out in peace and happiness.
You captured me from the very beginning with the line ' I didn't ask to be born into this word I didn't understand' and I couldn't stop reading till it ended with the possibility of passing through 'Heaven's Golden Gates'. A true masterpiece.
