Always girls

by Yakari Gabriel   Jun 5, 2015

I get angry,
I get angry because
they are always girls,
always girls in
little clothing, turn nothing
but skin and bones.
shaking their little bodies
for a camera
angry because they
are always dirty,
in dirty streets
in a third world country

angry because
they are always girls
always poor, always
hungry, being filmed
and going viral. and they all call
them names. call them ugly words.
degrade them. spit on em.
dehumanize them.

(where are their parents,
this is why the world is how it is,
they start so young.
soon to be prostitutes)

but no one ever talks
about the dirty bastard
that does the filming,
no one ever talks about
poverty and being thirsty
and having nothing left over to eat.
no one talks about lack of access
to education, not having love
and simply never seeing anything
better.

no.one.talks.about.that.

to me, don't talk about the girls
unless you are questioning
what we can do to better their
lives. don't come to me
with no stupid video,
don't dehumanize my girls.

come to me with the better
things. I want solutions.
I want hope.
come to me only,
when you have realized
those girls are as
human as you and me.

Again, brilliant. And not too far from "that" topic I guess. Your anger seeps through in every line (and rightfully so) in this poem. Hits the mark brilliantly.
