We Can't Be Together

by Mahal Ko Kuya Ko   Jun 15, 2015

I always thought that fire is the only thing that burns
and that roses are blessed for their thorns,
but everything is a mid-summer night dream --
a hello and a goodbye.

Every single line is very meaningful. Our skin can be on fire, the pain in our heart is burning. The rose to me is the queen of all flowers and the thorns do protect her from any harm. Some goodbyes are not forever there may be a chance for a new hello again.

This is such an interesting poem here dashiel. I love the first line here, fire is not always the only thing that does burn us and that is so true. Heartbreak seems to burn more of us than we realize. It hurts to know when we cannot be with another person that we love dearly, and that in turn burns us inside. The ending is really lovely here as well, everything is a hello or a goodbye. overall this poem has such a strong message that it portrays and I love how simple the title is, but it stands on its own to hit the meaning of the poem well. 5/5
