" One Hug "

by Lauriel Chambers   Jul 6, 2004

One hundred smiles
a couple hugs
a dozen " hey's "
one more for luck

A thousand steps
and fifty sighs
a thousand breaths
a couple cries

The ones you e-mail
twice a night
or IM,
if they're still on-line

The ones you call
on their cell phones
to leave voice mail
after the tone

Each day to you
it\'s all the same
the people who
you see each day

They're so lucky
I admit
if you called me
my pulse would quit

Your voice mails
I would tape record
to listen to
'til I got bored

I'd print your e-mails
save them all
frame them
hang them
on my wall

And just maybe
if I could
have one hug
that's if you don't mind

I'd never want to
give you up
wrapped 'round your shoulders tight

Just one of those
one thousand breaths
might touch me on the face

Your sweet cologne
sprayed on your chest
might linger
in this space

My heart might skip a beat
if it could feel yours
next to mine

Don't think that I'd
stay on my feet
faint to the floor
in no time

And just maybe...
if I could have one hug
or three
or four
or five

Can't you see
I know I'd be
the happiest girl alive
