A Poem About Poets

by Samuel Ernst   Jun 23, 2015

It's easy to write a sad poem,
when your world is falling apart,
Like sonnet of love,
When someone has found your heart,

It's fun to write a silly poem,
When you've been dancing in the rain,
Like songs of desperate release,
When your body is in absolute pain,

It's hard to write a life poem,
When life is absolutely crazy,
But easy to write about nothing,
When you feel exceptionally lazy,

The fact is the poetry is life,
We write about what we feel,
To you it may be nonsense,
But we poets know it's real,

So before you judge a writer,
Know what we do is life,
Read our lives and see,
Our smiles, ambitions and strife.

Quick fix: "Its" should have an apostrophe in the first two stanzas.

Excellent poem, Sam! I liked the way each line flowed into the next and it had a very easy-going rhyme scheme as well. This reminded me of the quote I shared to my Facebook page once that it's like second nature for poets to write when they are either incredibly in love, or struck by tragedy. But I believe we write in whatever mood. Poetry IS life I believe. And if our poems are honest and reflect our lives, we can only grow and share our story that way.

Thanks for the edit, I fixed it, and IDK, I feel poetry is a part of life for everyone who practices the art (it truly is an art) I'm really glad you enjoyed it :-)
