I still love you till this day

by Kenya   Jun 25, 2015

Eyes as brown as tree branches,
Lashes short and black.
Teeth as white as pearls,
Legs long enough to run track.

Eyebrows nice and thick,
With a smile that hardly reached the eyes.
Hands big and smooth,
With a mouth that only spoke lies.

A laugh so contagious,
Made me all giddy inside.
Told myself not to fall,
But I fell every time.

You tricked me with your smile,
Which made me weak to my knees.
Promised not to hurt me,
Said it all nice and sweet.

And you convinced me with every word,
For I was young and naive.
I really did love you,
It was not hard to believe.

With our hands clasped together,
We could have conquered the world.
My love was forever,
Worth more than diamonds and pearls.

I loved you unconditionally,
Yet you took it for granted.
You cut me right off,
With distance implanted.

I still love you till this day,
Even though you moved on.
Our fondness was real,
But you were already withdrawn.

You took what would otherwise be a familiar theme and gave it a twist:

"Legs long enough to run track."
    ...
    "Hands big and smooth,
With a mouth that only spoke lies"

However, after that your originality became hidden.
I admit your rhyme choices amused me:
"world" - "pearls" & "moved on" - "withdrawn"

On the other hand, "implanted" with "granted", while keeping the rhyme, seemed like a forced placement.

I'll be interested to see what else comes forth.
