Unsaved Heart

by Baby Rainbow   Jul 20, 2015

I gave you the last key to my heart,
hoping you would save me,
but deeply fearing you would break me.

A red flag suddenly appeared
and I could envision everyone
disappearing on me;
everyone I try desperately to forget.

I never would have made it this far in my life,
before you came along,
but deep down I knew this dreaded day would come;
the day you left.

Right now my emotions are frozen
and I am afraid to open my heart
because I know my eyes will bleed
until the oceans all run dry.

I gave you the very last key to my broken heart,
only to find out that nothing has been saved.

    Such a sad ending, acknowledging your heart is broken and that nothing is saved. "....my eyes will bleed until the oceans all run dry". sometimes in poems it's the little lines that stand out - lines that would stand out in any literary work - lines like that one. Love it.
