Vices And Vipers

by JaneDoeWrites & Baby Rainbow   Jul 23, 2015

There was something about the way she danced barefoot
in the low light of that Greece sunset,
her olive feet tapping to the gentle beat of my harp-
my lady in all white, crowned with flowers
and picturesque on the night we wed,
both anxious to spend eternity in each other's arms.

And in my arms she fell, my goddess
struck suddenly by a viper whose poison
hushed her last breath, quieted her life's song-
whose melodies should never again accompany
my lyre; I could feel her spirit spiral into
the void of the underworld.

Enveloped by my grief, I played
and strummed until my fingers bled,
"Hades, even your calloused heart once loved this way!
Relight her extinguished flame."
But where I walked, only she could follow,
our eyes never meeting until we surfaced home but
lust burned within me and temptation overtook,
I thought nobody would notice one small
limerence look...

My goddess,
I still see your ghostly olive feet
tapping to the gentle beat of my harp,
while I play songs of a love forever lost.

*A/N: For a club challenge, based off of the tragic Greek love story of Orpheus and Eurydice.*

I remember this Greek Mythology story it was quite sad, and both of you did a magnificent job remaking the story of it.
I adore Greek Mythology because it teaches the reader the tragedies that can happen in life and this poem was teaching that when it comes to love lust shouldn't be added into the mix if you're trying to save the one you breathe for. Lovely job both of you!
