The highs not high

by Sarah Day   Jul 25, 2015

The highs not high for the low is too low
The chemical release no longer softens the blow
It started out simple you drank just for fun
But before you even knew it to the bottle you'd run
Stressed out or angry you'd have just a shot
drank the whole bottle if you and yours fought
drinking was harmless or so you thought
everyone did it , you just did it alot.
Soon the liquor was just not enough
so you moved on to pills and other hard stuff
There was cross tops, black beauties, magnums, and weed
Then came the cola, crank, ecstasy.
Anything you could swallow to erase all your doubts ,
the drugs gave you courage and let your inner freak out
You moved on to smoking the dope from your pipe
supporting your habit by the things you could swipe.
Prices went up and quality decreased
you needed more just to feel your release.
The needle was calling it shouted your name
it dare you to try it, it was just not the same.
Resistance was futile your backbone was weak
but you never thought you of yourself as some slammer freak.
You only did it when you needed to chill
a bump once in a while to get over that hill
you were in power you had your free will
rehab was for quitters and you didn't fit that bill.
Now you have come to the fork in the trail-
are you a quitter or is it just as well?
All of the drugs and liquor combined
no longer relax you or help you unwind.
So is the money you waste on it worth it in the end
or is it like blowing smoke in the wind?

    Hi,

An enjoyable read that superbly drives home the 'Don't do it' message. It tells of the journey from Drink to hard drugs, the common unwillingness to face the hard truth that addiction is easy to achieve, a slippery slope which is hard to get away from.

A good message that I hope will be read by at least one person who will think twice before turning to drugs.

    Take care,

    Michael
