It was me the night - dark
It was me the night - black
It was me covered by stars,
I shone the less, and I did not mind.
But it was me the night,
That let you fall asleep peacefully, no doubt.
And it was me the night,
That didn't want to be as bright as the stars.

But you were the day, the sun was by your side,
You had the energy to go on in life,
And it was you the day, that met me at sundown,
Sometimes my lack of brightens pulled you down,
Yet it was you the day, that made this night
Seem lighter than it really was
And it was you the day, that helped me see the stars
that have been all along by my side,
That incited me to wish to be like the day
and not this night
