NEVER TO BE MOURNED

by Gayle McMillan   Jul 30, 2015

There was no one to listen
Or stand along side
No one to understand
To comfort or guide
But left to herself
To find her own way
Through the maze of her mind
There was no hope of a better day
Nothing was done
To help this wounded soul
She slipped away in the night
And neglect takes a toll
She was not just a statistic
She had a name, a face
Another lost between the cracks
What a terrible disgrace
One more forgotten soul
Only one of many lost
Her memory, simply dismissed
And at what cost
What will be the reason
Who will be to blame
For the silent forgotten victims
Who will feel the shame
But life goes on
As though she had never been born
The nameless, faceless souls forgotten
Never to be mourned
