The last smile

by Darren   Aug 6, 2015

Staring too hard at my reflection in a simple puddle
I tumble
falling to the bottom of nothingness
catching myself at the end.

Perhaps it was the absence of the mind
that caused the fall
leaving me locked up
inside a hole in my dreams.

Thinking fast, I grab my chest
pulling out the shadow inside my shadow
the bearer of all those dark thoughts
the causer of every fall.

I begin to float fast, passing many clocks
all bearing the time 'half past dead'
yet I shout as I swim, that 'it is not my time yet'
knowing deep down that I will have the last smile.
