An Abused Flower

by Someone Invisible   Aug 7, 2015

And you were so much sunshine
And she was a dying wilted flower
Drunk on your nourishment and so
Blinded she never thought to cower

She strained so hard to be closer
Basking in your warm rays
It never crossed her mind
That you weren't similarly fazed

But then your warmth got too hot
And she realized shed gotten too near
The flower you had coaxed back
To life; she began to live in fear.

Slowly one by one, her petals
Drifted down to the ground
With your flame licking down her stem
She turned to ash without a sound

She had come to you for warmth
And you drew her nearer to your flame
Knowing in the end, she would die
And itd be only you to blame

Another excellent write. And a rhyming poem which I love - they have been a dying breed until recently, but when done well are as charming as ever.
