The title was intriguing enough and made me want to read more. I guess we all want to discover the unknown even if that means we may get hurt in the process. Anyway, this is a good topic for a piece of writing.
I like the way you describe fear as rushing through veins. This brings an image of being invaded. I guess fear is like that. Like a hooligans running at a person who does not want to fight. Adding the shivering is a fear symptom, but to the bone adds a heightened element. Nice powerful simile/ Metaphor.
As I read the first stanza It is like you are describing memories once trapped surfacing. A human brain is clever and knows what memories to hide away to save the mind from melt down.
The couplet seems to verify this. Unearthing potential harmful memories certainly can require new skills to deal with the 'hurt'.
The memories are caused by a male. If the memories are distant, buried then they are probably a family member. These memories are difficult to decipher as dreams over the years overlay memories. What is real and subconscious who knows? This is truly scary and unsettling.
If this is true then it is cathartic to 'get it out'. Looking at this is a poetical sense, it is well thought out. It reminds me of how one can feel coming out of a nightmare where images come to haunt us. It could also be brought on by therapy. Be safe and remember, time usually reveals all and heals most wounds or at least heals enough to give a life and love of oneself back.
