Witch or Wonder-woman

MOTHER...
What a mysterious word-
but it isn't just a word now is it?

A mother seems to have two associations;
The stereotypical goddess-like figure who
in her love-filled heart can see through you
and with a smile heal all wounds.

The other association is far less attractive;
The evil step mother of all fairy tales you see-
she is one who can bring your soul to it's knees
with her eyes filled with angry heat.

A mother comforts you in times of need,
she can kill you without seeing her cruel deeds.
She can be your super hero, make your heart glow,
or fill you with the greatest hatred and sorrow.

Mothers can hold you close and fill you with love,
or make you wish that you could die and fly above;
to heaven where there isn't any pain,
whilst she can also try to guide you-in vain

to a place where she feels you will thrive,
at times it feels you just try to survive.
Mother holds you and wipes your tears,
her anger will haunt you through all your years.

She is the one you call for in the dark of night,
the one you cower from in tremendous fright.
The one who laughs to hear you sing badly,
the one who makes you cry terribly.

Mother gives all up to give you better,
or takes it all away, making you feel threatened.
She teaches you to dance and pray,
to scream and run far far away.

Mother will sit with you on her lap so warm,
or leave you out in the most bitter of storms.
She will kiss your wounds better
or create soul wounds that fester.

But when she's gone and you're left wondering;
was it all a shaky dream, you keep pondering.
The broken hearts and shattered dreams,
can be healed or worsened with a beam.

A smile...
A rod...
A dream
of a woman...
of a mother.

    How true this poem is. I guess there always has to be a balance, doesn't there? If someone has the power to bring so much love and happiness to a person's life, equally, that same person can bring misery if they lack in the above qualities. Excellent
