Shameful Secrets

by Baby Rainbow   Aug 17, 2015

Every morning,
every night,
is another set of pills
to be forced down my throat.

I remember laying comatose beneath his body,
with his sweaty hands giving me a doctor's examination,
as his heavy breathing whispered threats
into my bleeding, screaming ears.

I wish there was nothing to be afraid of
by exposing these shameful secrets,
but there is,
and I am scared you will create
a storm cloud within me,
just to walk away
and leave me drowning
in the pouring rain.

The second stanza of this is so raw and powerful and honest. The grief and shame left when something like this happens is devastating for so many victims. Nominated.
