Polluted Heart

by Baby Rainbow   Aug 19, 2015

Leaves of regret blow past my dragging feet
as I stroll with sorrow
through an autumn's evening breeze,
with cold rain slapping me in the face.

I know I must keep walking
even though I'm heading
in the wrong direction of you,
because I was always getting in your way
and getting you tangled inside
the web of my polluted heart.

I know I let you down,
and it's not your fault for giving up on me.
I know this rain won't wash away the pain
that is silently screaming inside of me.

I do not blame you for taking your love
in the opposite direction of me.

I love the imagery employed throughout this poem - it really is excellent, the first stanza specifically.
*I wonder if "heading in the wrong direction FROM you" word roll off the tongue a little better than "OF you"? Just a suggestion.
