Mama

by Yakari Gabriel   Sep 5, 2015

Between way too expensive phone calls,
there is no space for unnecessary insults.
Now the minutes are gold.
So I can only tell you about my
day before time runs out.
Its a pity I had to move
8000 kilometers away,
for you to realize we could actually talk.

for you to want to hear my voice.
I'm drinking hot tea in a cold room
wondering why we lost all the months before this one
to something as fleeting as resentment

This is a very sad poem and heartbreaking. My mother resented me and if and when she called it was nothing but cold and ice. Now she is dead and I can't talk to her anymore. Sometimes we need space and miles and miles away from each other to be civil with each other. You expressed your feelings well and hopefully it will get better. Regardless keeping the line of communication open is very important.

This is so sad to read. Your words tore at my heart. Life is to short to let things come between a mother and daughter....we're never promised tomorrow. Sometimes death can come and take a loved one without notice......I hope things get better for you.
    Take care
