I never awake and you never sleep
but we meet in between, in a realm
custom made for us, and by us.

Where the blurry lines are simply
your thoughts, woven into words
by something beyond our reach.

I extended my arm for you to find
even if we barely touch I know the
warmth within your hold is real.

But I'm not, I fade into your nights
only to fill the void that haunts you
when no one bears your screams.

Because dreaming men are haunted
men, dream of me tonight. Let me
be a resident ghost in your mind.

Sometimes there are lines in a poem that really stick out more so than others and strike me -- this line is one of them:

    Because dreaming men are haunted
    men, dream of me tonight.

I -love- that so much. I've read it over and over and can't get over it. It's haunting, beautiful, sad..

Your opening stanza is probably my favorite. It's something I can relate to, yet something so personal, like a secret. I think it's interesting you opened with this person never sleeps, and you end with asking them to dream of you. Like to take a chance, rest in you, be still, be calm. That's a really beautiful and heartbreaking thought. Lovely poem!

    Hello,

Insomnia is like another world. It reminds me of when I worked nights. I felt like I was the only person awake, looking out for those asleep.

I am not sure if the ghost's intentions are good or not. Dreaming, haunted men scream - is this because of outstretched hand or another ghost?

Lovely imagery and language that provokes the mind, teasing it, willing it to deduce the meaning.

    Well done,

    Michael
