I'm trying not to lie to you
but I can't promise that there will be
no disappointments.
I try my best to shine for you,
but I'm afraid I'm not acclimatised
to the expectations of your love.
All this time to think is
dangerous for my mind,
which always has one foot in the past,
and the other foot expecting that
the worst is yet to come.
And I wish I could lie
and say I'll choose my guts over fear,
but when I look over my shoulders
and see all the miniature disasters,
I'm terrified of being deluded
by another false alarm.
Saffie,
Unusually, the first lines of the first and second stanzas seem to work magically together here - intentional or not. "I'm trying not to lie to you........I try my best to shine for you" - brilliant and an excellent piece,
All the best,
Ben
