The Society of Screens

by Kaytrien   Oct 4, 2015

Twitter, Facebook, Messenger, and MySpace,
Have you ever really cared, to look at your friends face?
We look too much at laptops, and kindles, and phones,
were all guilty for this, were all just like clones.
We use laptops at school, not books or handwriting,
we cause drama on phones, and we then end up fighting.
Cyber bullies would leave, they'd have nothing to use,
They'd have nothing to text with, in that fight they'd lose.
So make your decision, will you look at some eyes?
Or will you stare at a screen, telling nothing but lies?
This is a society, of screens and real phones,
where you sit in your room, unsocial and unknown.
You think you have friends, but your really alone.
for 4 decades in all, your life has turned to stone.
So get up and go outside, go venture out the earth,
with so much to explore, and your loving gift of birth.
But don't forget to smile, at the trees that are green, stop looking at your phone, and get off of your screen.

I dont really "check" the arthur's bio if I read a poem from them but if yours is true, than you my friend are a brilliant writer... And if someone doubts me all they have to do is to read this poem...

I thought I was the only one! I'm putting this poem in my favourites. I don't even have a phone anymore. The world has become absolutely ridiculous, hasn't it?
Go to a restaurant and there's mothers and fathers ignoring their children while they text or tweet or whatever people are doing all the time.
People go out with each other and spend the whole time on their phones to someone else! You have got no idea how much I relate to this poem - I've done a few about this topic myself. It really is so damaging, this phone craze of ours, especially for kids who can view just about anything they want now. We have, I'm afraid, lost touch of reality; people are living false lives and forgetting those around them.
All the very best and a great write with another excellent rhyming flow

Thanks! I very much agree with what your saying. Our world has become electrified and lonely. I think we should say that we like something rather than texting it or clicking a button that shows almost no satisfaction or appreciation! Thanks for writing!
