    Wow! This really does hit hard and fast. "We shared a smoke, our cigarette more red than white" - great line. Enjoyed this.

    I enjoyed your poem John. It brings a real focus into the insanity of all wars, and how a real new friendship, is often put aside in the name of duty.
    It beggars belief that human can act that way.
    I liked reading this work of yours.
    Reminds me of mankinds illogical reasoning, that war can solve everything.

    Peter said most of what I was going to say. I was just going to add in that I found these two verses particularly interesting:

    "We shared a smoke,/our cigarette more red than white."

    The red can be symbolism for bloodshed, or you could look at it literally of the cigarette being expended, much like the morality of humanity when it comes to war. Intriguing write, and thank you for adding that note at the end of the poem, it helped with understanding this piece and appreciating it more.
