Taste My Silence

by Baby Rainbow   Oct 13, 2015

I said never again
would I write a poem about you,
but how can I not
when you were such a big part of me?

I strayed away from my rigid rules,
let you get close,
why oh why did you have to break in?

If I pretend that nothing went wrong,
and keep trying to make it all okay,
would you strike me with reality,
or would we then remain?

Perhaps if I wrote it in a letter
you would taste my silence?

For I can already see the flames,
and taste the smoke,
as our love burns out.

Once again, the assumption is that this is about Liam, Saffie, but as with other poems of yours, it could be someone else you know and are close to, or purely generic, depending on how you are feeling. Whichever, it is an outstanding piece of work. The feelings, the conflicts, the fears and worries are all keenly felt, and if they don't affect other readers in the same way, then they are without emotion! I particularly love the lines 'perhaps if I wrote it in a letter, you would taste my silence'! So evocative of what you are trying to express and let's the reader know that you are also very aware of your own often silent responses, which can be so frustrating for your friends!! Impressive poem, Saffie!

It's hard to keep people away from you when they have touched your life as deeply as some do, despite what we promise ourselves.
Great piece and I absolutely love the last stanza.
    All the best,
