Fading Words

by Baby Rainbow   Oct 13, 2015

You say you love me
and that you are beside me,
even when you are not there.
But I no longer believe you,
as every word you said
is fading slowly from my heart.

It's hard to hear your name,
especially when I'm screaming it
in the still of the night,
replaying your light promises in my mind.

I'm holding my breath,
awaiting for you to come back
and explain the reasons for us to be apart.

Because you say that you still love me,
but I no longer believe you!

A gorgeous poem, Saffie! It is beautifully crafted, poignant and very sad. I don't know who it refers to; whether it relates back to Liam or to another. Maybe you will tell me sometime; but there is a strong longing to be felt throughout the poem, even though belief is waning. After all, if belief is gone, why write the poem? If the content is about Liam, then enough said, but if it tells of another, maybe that is the only way that person can cope with their feelings, over time, by being more detached, particularly if it is not clear what you feel for them. This brought a tear to my eyes as I read it. It is very sad but is a stunningly well written poem. Superb!
