No need to fear the Dark!!

by J Nair   Oct 13, 2015

I often told my kids,
There's no need to fear the dark.

No goblins or monsters are lurking out there
Darkness is just the absence of light.
The objects loom up into grotesque forms,
Scaring you out of your wits!
All that is set in & about the room,
Remains intact in darkness, as in light.

It is, just minds play my child,
I often told my kids,
There's no need to fear the dark.

Then one day I awoke, thinking it was morn,
Rubbed my eyes & blinked.
Has the sun not risen yet?
Is it still, night outside?

There was no light streaking through the windows,
I couldn't see my palms, held in front of my eyes,
Something ominous was to strike!

A fear gripped my throat.
Yes, I could hear that the world was up and bustling about.
Sure it was morn again.

Somewhere between sleeping and waking,
I had lost my sight!!!
I often told my kids,
There's no need to fear the dark.
