Safe Places.

by Poet on the Piano   Oct 15, 2015

Don't ask me
why
I fell in love with you or
why
I believed in guardian angels that
would help my fearful wings
extend
when blame turned our family
inside-out
and I would try my best not to
eavesdrop, but truthfully I just
wanted to keep everyone
safe
forever

More than once, you were my safe place
Not the deteriorated bathroom with rusted
locks, where I'd sink into the polluted
tub
wishing the cobwebs would hide me
well enough
Not the rare apologies or ice cream
swirled into a smile

I partly lost
you
but now am love's
apprentice
understanding how love is
to be given
not to be abused
not to be dragged along
in tired promises and sullen
horizons

Soon, I hope
I won't need a safe place

I'll be steady on my
own

I sort of understand this feeling. We all want that safe place, that safe arms and that one person we can always run to when our world is crumbling but then we stop and think-how much pressure we are putting upon love itself! The strain can be seen but will not be spoken.

So here you want to be your own safe place, you want to find and depend on your own strength and leave room for love to breathe. Maybe my interpretation is wrong but that is what I felt in this write...take care dear.
