Safe Inside Darkness

by Baby Rainbow   Oct 16, 2015

I need the darkness while I'm alive,
so when I look over my shoulder
I don't become rigid with fear
from what I see.

Even when I cry,
nobody hears me
because I let my tears
fall silently inside my heart.

I never admit that
there is something on my mind,
most people let me off the hook
with false answers and a pretty smile.

They don't understand
that I need the darkness,
because it is all that has ever kept me safe

This poem is an absolute stunner, Saff! It is extremely dark and sinister, worthy of the very best of the world's horror writers! Almost Edgar Allan Poe! You know that I am aware of the context of this one, and I know it is sadly how you often feel. It is a stunningly well written reflection of what most people don't see when they interact with you. Taking that apart, I hope you can also see what I mean about the quality of it as a piece of horror writing, and won't be offended by that statement. Both contexts give me the shivers here, Saffie, and I wish I could take yours away from you and make you whole! Genuine poetic genius!
