Someone Else's Dream

by Baby Rainbow   Oct 16, 2015

I wonder if you know
that your silence is tearing me to pieces.
I hate myself for losing you,
but I guess it's now out of my hands.

My world is torn apart,
wondering if there was any truth in your lies?
Did you ever really care at all?

I know that this is over,
but did we try hard enough
to salvage what we had,
or were we only just a dream
inside your eyes?

Very powerful, Saffie, quite sad, and filled with confusion and unanswered questions. One of many of your poems on the same theme recently (I have read right through to 19th October submissions). You seem to be sure that you have brought about this 'separation' when you write 'I hate myself for losing you';but then this is mixed in with queries and potential accusations about the other person; whether there was any 'truth in your lies' and 'did you ever really care at all?' In doing this you are making assumptions about the other person's integrity and their feelings, assuming their silence is an indication of lies told and a wish to separate themselves from you. I suppose this is what happens when people stop talking to each other suddenly. Their reasons can be very different and picked up incorrectly by each other. Your question 'were we only just a dream inside your eyes?' is a very interesting way to finish, Saffie. It leaves the whole poem unanswered - back to square one! A complex write, dealing with a lot of issues in a simple format. Very skilful, Saff!
