Closer Than Your Shadow

My heart lives in a constant state
of fight or flight,
sometimes it makes me want to run from you.

I wish it didn't matter,
but I never want to hurt you
and I'm afraid the poison in my blood
is contagious.

I try to apologise,
but you say there's nothing to forgive.

I can feel your love,
the truth in your promises,
I can always see it in your eyes.

And I'm writing this to you
to ask for you not to give up on me,
because I never regret you,
I only continue to love you.

Mostly what I need from you
is to keep listening to the tears
that never come,
keep listening to the whispers
from the shining star.

And I hope you can feel
my love surround you,
because it's so deep,
it's now closer than your shadow.
