Can't hold it down.

by Poet on the Piano   Oct 25, 2015

I can't keep you from
rising in my heart,
like flames that terrify
the demon I repeatedly
try to
smother.

I can't keep you from
soothing my nerves,
even though we won't
be writing more memories
where you held
me and I found my life's
value
reflected in your eyes.

I can't always stop myself
from feeling,
so quit asking me to
imprison the pain and
improve myself,
like an insomniac cured
of sleeplessness with an
angel's kiss.

Is it so wrong to want
to leave you behind?
I'm not running if I point
my heart in a new direction,
if I learn a new way of life...

at a greater distance from
you and all you will never
be to me.

Maryanne this is a epic write . Love where this poem stems from, I love that quote. Your opening stanza is awesome with the fire that you're trying to smother the demon with ...I loved what you did there.

I'm not running if I point
my heart in a new direction,
if I learn a new way of life...

^^ I loved this! Ugh, self motivation, justifying what's actually happening ---> running. We always look for an excuse.

This was great, I miss your work and it felt good to read again.

    Hi MaryAnne,

It is so good you have this outlet, just imagine if you could not write!

Sometimes taking your distance, literally and emotionally, even of it is just for a few days, can make you see things more clearly.

If you truly love someone, then that feeling will surface once you are alone. If you don't, then you will feel a huge sense of relief once you have managed to get away, or go into a new direction, as you called it in your poem.

You deserve to have the best. Dare and investigate if he is that to you, you won't regret it. Sometimes, after you have closed one door, a new one opens with a person that makes you happy and just happy, no other conflicting emotions attached.

Keep writing until it is out of your system, ok?

    Love and a big hug,

    Beautiful....

    "so quit asking me to
    imprison the pain and
    improve myself,
    like an insomniac cured
    of sleeplessness with an
    angel's kiss."

And that part is just breathtaking...
